Biography
Internationally acclaimed pianist David Gross was born in Berlin and is an active performer in Europe and in the United States. He has recorded numerous solo broadcasts for German National Public Radio and has been featured in the film "Singing Hands" produced by German National Public Television. His 1995 CD release (Signum Records) of the Piano Concerto by Edouard Lalo with the Staatsorchester Frankfurt/ Oder was met with critical acclaim. This recording was selected for the 2001 in-flight audio program on Lufthansa. David Gross is a prizewinner of the international piano competitions in Marsala, Italy, and Bremen, Germany.
Dr. Gross is Assistant Professor of Piano at Furman University in Greenville, South Caroline. He also served as Resident Artist at Western Michigan University from 1999 until 2001, and as Visiting Associate Professor at Goshen College, Indiana. He holds a Diploma (Bachelor's Degree) from the Hochschule (State Conservatory) Munich and a Master's Degree from the Yale School of Music, as well as an Artist's Diploma from the Hochschule Hannover and a Doctoral Degree from the University of Illinois. His teachers include Ludwig Hoffmann, Arie Vardi, Daniel Pollack, Claude Frank, and John Wustman. Before moving to the United States, he taught piano at the Hochschule "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin.
Besides appearing in solo and collaborative recitals, David Gross has given lecture-recitals, most recently at the Goethe Institute in Boston, at national conferences of the College Music Society and of the Music Teachers National Association, and for local MTNA chapters throughout the Southeast.
David Gross was featured as soloist on the subscription series with the Staatsorchester Frankfurt/Oder in 2001 and with the Berlin Symphony in 2002. An advocate of 20th century music, he performed Bartók's Third Piano Concerto with the Furman Symphony Orchestra in October 2002. Engagements during the season 2004-2005 include performances of Beethoven's 4th concerto in Greenville, MacDowell's 2nd concerto in Boston, solo recitals throughout the Southeast, and collaborative recitals in Chicago, and Brittany, France. During the season 2005-2006 he will be featured as soloist with the Hendersonville Symphony (North Carolina), and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra (Illinois).
