Duo Figer-Khanina, Duo
Biography
Based in New York City, Duo Figer - Khanina is a young and dynamic ensemble formed with the goal of exploring the rarely played repertoire composed for this instrumentation. The duo often enjoys collaborations with contemporary composers and is also active in commissioning new music. It presents unique and innovative programs, comprised of the traditional duo repertoire, rarely performed pieces and new music. The group has recorded recitals at WFMT Chicago and at the Israeli radio station "Voice of Music," and was featured at the "MacGraw Hill Young Artists Showcase" on WQXR New York.
Anna Khanina’s career spans the continents of Asia, Europe, and North America where she regularly appears as a soloist with orchestras and chamber ensembles. Among her many awards are the prizes at the Val Tidone International Piano Competition, the Second International Piano Competition in Panama, the Seventh International Competition Ciutat de Carlet, the Grieg Competition in Oslo, the Nueva Acropolis Competition in Madrid, and the Clasica Nova Competition in Hannover. Ms. Khanina studied at the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, Russia, before continuing her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover, the Chicago College of Performing Arts, and Stony Brook University. Her teachers include Gilbert Kalish, Solomon Mikowsky, and Bernd Goetzke.
Currently based in New York City, Israeli violinist Guy Figer is a winner of national and international awards. Figer has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras such as the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble, the IDF chamber orchestra, the "Soloists in the Loop" orchestra, the "Manhattan Symphonie," the Manchester Music Festival ensemble, and has been broadcast on Israeli radio, Vienna Radio, and on WFMT Chicago. He has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Tabea Zimmerman and Maxim Vengerov. As a former member of the Israeli Carmel Quartet, he worked with members of the famous Alban Berg Quartet at the Musik Hochschule in Cologne, Germany. Mr. Figer holds a B.M degree from the Tel-Aviv music academy, a M.M degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and is currently completing his DMA at Rutgers University. Among his teachers are Arnold Steinhardt, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Hagai Shaham, and Irina Svetlova.
