Dr. Boyce is well-known for his sacred music,
although claims could be made for his talent as a dramatic composer as well. He
represents the late English baroque style, which owes much to Handel, as well
as anyone. Boyce, as mentioned above, had studied with Maurice Greene and had
also served as an apprentice to him at St. Paul's Cathedral after his voice
broke. He eventually became the Master of the King's Music, succeeding Greene,
