Musician's or Publisher's Notes Not
much is known about this charming work or its composer, Jacques Morel, except
that he was a talented viol player who may have studied with one of the most
famous French virtuosos of his day, Marin Marais. Taken from his first book of pieces for the viol, this chaconne
was originally scored for flute, viola da gamba and continuo. We are, however, taking a page from any 17th
or 18th century performer's book by working with available
resources, and performing this piece today on violin, cello and continuo
(harpsichord). Jason Moy
