Biography
26 year-old Chinese pianist Jie Yuan’s talent has been recognized both on the performance stage and by his country. Appointed “National Arts Youth Ambassador of China” by the China State Council and “Artist of the Year” by the Jilin Provincial Government in 2010, Mr. Yuan has performed with orchestra and in recital throughout all five continents, including Argentina, Australia, Cambodia, Canada, China, Colombia, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United States.
Among his orchestral credits are the China National Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Real Orquesta Sinfonica de Sevilla, Orchestra Philharmonique de Nice, Orchestre des Champs-Elysées, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, Monteverdi Symphony Orchestra, Haydn Chamber Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic, Morocco Royal Philharmonic, and the New River Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Yuan’s numerous solo recital appearances include Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York, Symphony Hall in Seattle, Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, Salle Cortot in Paris, National Performance Center and Grand Theater in Beijing, Culture Center and City Hall in Hong Kong, Performing Arts Center in Cairo, and the Oriental Performing Center in Shanghai, among others.
On the competition circuit, Jie Yuan has earned numerous prizes and awards, including the Gold Medal of the Carl Bechstein Competition in 2007, 2nd Prize at the 2008 Shanghai International Piano Competition, Gold Medal of the 2003 Hong Kong International Open Piano Competition, Gold Medal at the 8th Crescendo International Music Award, 1st Prize at the Seattle International Piano Competition in 2009; and top prizes at the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Bolzano, the Gina Bachauer in Salt Lake City, and the Hamamatsu Competition in Japan.
Mr. Yuan earned his Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School and is currently enrolled in the prestigious Artist Diploma program at Juilliard, where he is continuing his studies under Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky.
