Nicolas Horvath, Piano
Biography
French born in Monte-Carlo, Nicolas Horvath started his musical studies in the Monaco's Academie de Musique Prince Rainier III, where he got a great gold medal in piano and the Rainier III Prize.
At 16, Lawrence Foster, after hearing him in a competition, invite him 9 monthes to the Aspen Music Festival by obtaining him the Princess Grace Foundation full scholarship. When he returns, he works with Gerard Fremy that introduce him to music of our time.
At 26 he is graduated from the Ecole Normale in Paris in piano and in the Paris Conservatory in Electroacoustic composition, and start to work for 3 years with Bruno-Léonardo Gelber (assisted by Germaine Deveze) who advise him not to perform any concert or doing any competition.
After this intense training, success is immediate: from 30 to 32 he won 11 international competitions (with 7 great prizes) like : Fukuoka, New-York, Yokohama, Lyon, Luigi Nono, Franz Liszt (Japan), Scriabin...
He perfected his pianism under the advises of Oxana Yablonskaya in her own institute. Laureate of the Lazar Berman foundation, he joins their cycle of international masterclasses. Also Leslie Howard, after hearing Nicolas during the auditions of the Gina Bachauer competition invite him to perform for the Liszt Society.
Nicolas' desire to learn from great masters enable him to work with: Eric Heidsieck, Huseyin Sermet, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Sumik Mikimoto, Gabriel Tacchino, Sergio Perticaroli, Jean-Michel Damase, François René Duchable, Gabriel Chodos, Philippe Entremont, Joaquin Soriano, Jean- Philippe Collard, Michel Béroff, Jerome Lowenthal, Nelson Delle-Vigne, Robert Roux...
Extremely involved in contemporary music, Nicolas perofmed in national or world premiere pieces of more than 30 composers like : Carter, Boulez, Glass, Satie, Liszt, Carl Vine, Hersant, Curran, Levaillant, Duckworth, Tanguy, Sorabji, Greif...and he is the dedicator of works by Leslie Howard, Jeroen van Veen, Kazuo Missé, Carlos Peron Cano, Frederick Martin, Osamu Kawakami, Fulvio Caldini, Andrew Chubb, Arnaud Desvignes, Thomas Kamieniak...
As a composer, his works had been played in Pragua, Speyer, Tokyo, Palm-Beach, Poitier, Turin, Paris, Lille and Merseille. He realizes transcriptions as a piano solo version of Liszt's Faust Symphony, Varriations on a Japanese folk tune, on a national tune, and some never edited piano pieces of Frederic Lamothe, soon published in Muzik Fabrik. In 2012 the label Section XIII Coma will release his first electroacoustic album.
Thanks to his international career, he was able to perform on prestigious hall (Carnegie Hall, Minato Mirai, Bösendorfer-Saal, Mozarteum, Salle Cortot de Paris, Palais des Congrès de Perpignan, London Steinway Hall, l’Opéra Garnier de Monte-Carlo... )and in numerous festivals (Palm Beach Atlantic Piano Festival, Festival des Arcs, Aspen Music Festival, «Jeunes Talents de la Salle Pleyel», Gabala Piano Festival, BSI Monte-Carlo Music Master, «Pianists of the World», Taiwan International Music Festival, «Nishin-Nihon Debut Recital Series»...).
Aware to the world events, he is doing his best to help charitable organizations in organizing benefits events (for the cancer research, to help the Haitian, the Russian orphans, the Red Cross, rebuilding Japan...).
Nicolas is a Young Steinway Artist.
In 2011 he joins the Music Passion Agency.
Now he is preparing a marathon-recital of the complete music of Erik Satie (including the Vexations, a premiere).
In 2012, his first album: Franz Liszt's Christus (the first complete recording at Hortus Editions) will be released, and will be followed by a promotional tour in Lithuania, Russia, Japan, Belgium, USA, UK, Australia, France...
