Intermezzo in e minor (Andantino un poco agitato), Op. 119, No. 2 Johannes Brahms
The three Intermezzi presented here were published with a fourth piece-a
rhapsody-to make up Johannes Brahms' opus 119. The term Intermezzo comes from the 18th Century,
where it referred to a comic work presented between acts of a serious
opera. But by Brahms' time, it was an
umbrella term for any lyrical, smaller-scale work. He completed these pieces during his summer holiday in Austria in
1893. The first intermezzo was written
in May and the following pieces finished in June. Alon Goldstein
