Ferdinand
Ries is the most celebrated member of a long-standing musical family of the
city of Bonn, and is remembered today largely because of his close acquaintance
with Beethoven. As a composer, Ries
wrote in many genres, including symphonies, oratorios, and chamber music
arrangements. Today only his piano
music, among them nine piano concertos and seven piano sonatas, along with
countless other works for solo piano, remain in the repertoire. Einav Yarden
