Biography
Portuguese Clarinetist Samuel Brandão Marques began his studies at the age of five with Nelson Aguiar (Aveiro Music Conservatory) and continued his studies with António Saiote (Music and Performing Arts College – Porto), before studying under Stanley Drucker, Pascual Martínez-Forteza and Dennis Smylie at New York University’s Steinhardt School. At NYU he obtained a Masters degree in Instrumental Performance (at the age of twenty), an Advanced Certificate in Music Education, and was also an Adjunct Instructor.
Mr. Marques was awarded honors in several competitions in Portugal, Spain and the US. In 2013, Mr. Marques was selected to the National Repertory Orchestra (Colorado), the Castleton Festival Orchestra, the World Peace Orchestra, and the New York Youth Symphony. He is also Bass Clarinetist with the International Mahler Orchestra (Germany). In 2014, Mr. Marques was accepted to the Institute and Festival for Contemporary Performance (New York) and to the Atlantic Music Festival (Waterville, ME), being offered a Resident Artist Fellowship. During the same year, he had the opportunity to play with the internationally renowned mezzo-soprano, Joyce DiDonato.
