Soran Sophia Lee, Violin
Biography
Violinist Soran Sophia Lee, a native of South Korea, has earned both high praise from numerous critical reviews and raves from audiences for her commanding stage presence, delicate, sensitive playing, and passionate, sparkling virtuosity based on solid technique when performing her challenging repertoire.
She has won numerous competitions in Korea in addition to the Euro International Competition, Yale Chamber Music Competition, and the Stony Brook Concerto Competition. She also gave several recitals sponsored by the Kumho Foundation after winning the Kumho Young Artist Audition. In 2006, Soran Sophia Lee toured with the KBS Symphony Orchestra, performances which were televised nationally. She has performed in major venues throughout Korea as soloist with the KBS Symphony Orchestra, Pusan Philharmonic, and the Korean Chamber Ensemble.
Outside Korea, Ms. Lee has performed in Japan, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, and Czech Republic including broadcasts on Radio Suisse Romande in Switzerland. Most recently, she soloed with the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and the Waltham Symphony.
Soran Sophia Lee earned her B.M. from Seoul National University and her M.M. from Yale School of Music. Currently she is in DMA program at Stony Brook University studying with Philip Setzer, Philippe Graffin, and the Emerson String Quartet.
Born in Korea, pianist Hea Jung Cho has won many awards and prizes, including 2nd prize in the Busoni International Piano Competition with the Busoni Special Prize, 3rd prize in the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, 1st prize in the Vienna Music Competition, the Malcolm Frager Fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Competition, and 5th prize in the Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition.
She has performed with a number of orchestras including the Seoul Symphony, the Sejong Soloists, Seoul Classical Players, the Pusan Symphony, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, Utah Symphony, Bournemouth Symphony, and the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra.
Ms. Cho completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the New England Conservatory of Music where she was awarded full scholarships. Currently she is pursuing a doctoral degree at Seoul National University.
