Sung Chang, Piano
Biography
Pianist Sung Chang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1986. He began piano at the age of three, and gave his debut concert at age five.
Mr. Chang is the recipient of multiple awards, including the Nagoya International Piano Competition at age 17, the competition’s youngest winner. Other successes include First Prize in the 2007 Korea International Music Foundation Competition; the 2009 Valsesia Musica International Competition, and the 2013 International Piano Competition “Citta Di Caraglio” in Italy. In 2011, he won First Prize and Audience Prize at the International Wettbewerb der Chopin-Gesellschaft in Hannover, Germany and the International Schubert Competition for Piano Duo. He is also an active chamber musician.
Mr. Chang has enjoyed distinguished performance opportunities in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Japan, Taiwan, China, the US, and Korea. These include a performance at the Isang Yun Memorial Concert, the North Korea National Orchestra Interaction Concert, a Korea-Germany Embassy Concert, the Kumho Rising Star Series Concert and a Yamaha Rising Star Concert.
He has been a featured soloist with many Orchestras such as the KBS Symphony Orchestra, the Kyung-Ki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Taejon Symphony Orchestra, Wonju Symphony Orchestra, and the KNUA Symphony Orchestra. Most notably, he has appeared in concert at the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles performing Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.1, and his recital at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam was broadcast live across the country.
His CD entitled Prospect was released by K-Art, and features works by Schubert and Liszt.
Mr. Chang completed his undergraduate degree at the Korea National University of Arts before moving to Germany to continue his studies at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hannover with Prof. Vladimir Krainev, where he successfully completed the Music Performance program, and continued postgraduate work with Prof. Ewa Kupiec.
