Chopin completed the Allegro de Concert in 1842.It is believed to contain the first movement material for a planned third piano concerto. The history of the work is obscure, but Chopin finally completed it as a solo work and famously proclaimed that he would perform it if he ever returned to a free Warsaw.Structural elements particular to concerti are visible in what could be an orchestral introduction with subsequent tutti entries. This tempted many to try and create transcriptions for piano and orchestra. Interestingly, (since 2012 marked the 150th anniversary celebrations for Debussy), this was a work that the French master was fond of performing in his years at the Paris Conservatoire.Pieter Grobler
