The Holberg Suite was written by Edvard Grieg in 1884 for a celebration of the 200th birthday of Danish-Norwegian humanist playwright Ludvig Holberg. The suite was originally composed for the piano, but Grieg himself set the piece for string orchestra a year after its premiere. It consists of an introduction and a set of dances and is an early example of neo-classicism, an attempt to echo the music of Holberg's era. Seraph commissioned this transcription in 2014.Seraph Brass
