Green Groves of Erin and Flowers of Red HillTraditional Irish, arr. by Dan Graser
The inspiration for our setting of this famous pair of Irish reels came from the landmark 1996 recording, Appalachia Waltz, which featured a version of these tunes performed by string virtuosi Mark O’Connor, Yo-Yo Ma, and Edgar Meyer. Translating this music to saxophone allows for a similar level of virtuosity, but with a greater power of sound and articulation. While we’re playing just as fast as fiddle players, the combined mass of sound is reminiscent of a great highland bagpipe! Donald Sinta Quartet
