Franz Behr (1837-1898) was a prolific German composer of salon music, and is best known today for the polka which forms the basis of Rachmaninov's 'Polka de W.R.'. He also wrote pieces with French titles under the name George Bachmann. This 'waltz of the elves' shows him as a real craftsman - it is a perfectly structured miniature, with attractive themes, and lots of expressive devices to keep the listener's interest.
