Ania Filochowska, Violin
Biography
18-year old Ania Filochowska began her violin studies in Warsaw, Poland. At age 11, she was accepted to the Juilliard School on full scholarship, and was invited by Itzhak Perlman to attend "The Perlman Music Program.” She studied under the legendary Itzhak Perlman at Juilliard for 4 years as his youngest student. She continued her studies at the Curtis Institute of Music, and also regularly worked with Prof. Ana Chuamchenco from the Munich Musikhochschule. Currently, she studies with Professor Pavel Vernikov at the Music Conservatory in Vienna. As a child, she won top prizes in most national violin competitions in Poland and international violin competitions for young violinists in Europe.
Ania made her orchestral debut at age 10 in Poland. She also performed with the Baltic Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonietta Cracovia. At age 12, she played on “From the Top” radio show, a showcase of America's top young classical musicians in Boston, and recorded for the PBS TV Series “From the Top: Live from Carnegie Hall.” She has performed in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Holland, Italy, and in Canada. In the US, she played in such concert venues as Carnegie Hall (Weill and Zankel Halls), Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Princeton University's Richardson Auditorium, Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory, and others. She annually gives recitals during the Mainly Mozart Festival in Miami, Florida.
In addition to being taught by her great master teachers, Ania has received instruction from world-renowned violinists and professors, including Midori, Ida Haendel, Wanda Wilkomirska, Zakhar Bron, Ruggiero Ricci, and Pinchas Zukerman. In summer 2007, Ania studied at the Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland. In Spring 2009, she played for Maestro Zubin Mehta at Avery Fisher Hall of the New York Philharmonic. She regularly plays auditions for Anne-Sophie Mutter, who has been a big artistic influence since Ania’s first audition at age 11 in Warsaw. Recently, she also played for Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki.
