I. Evening II. Blindengarten III. Autumn Brilliance IV. French Mountain Village
Although Jackson Berkey originally wrote Earth Voices as a
song cycle for soprano voice, clarinet, cello and piano, he dedicated a
reworked version of the piece to the Orion Ensemble. In this recorded version,
Berkey adapted his score to Orion's unique instrumentation, giving the singer's
line to the violin.
Typical of Jackson Berkey's nature-inspired compositions, Earth Voices seeks
to reflect, in sound, the beauty of nature-in this case, channeling Mother
Earth through the nuanced voices of piano, violin, viola, cello, and clarinet.
Jackson Berkey exercises his numerous gifts throughout the realm of
music-making. A pianist, he has recorded classical piano repertoire, performed
with the Norman Luboff Choir, and served as keyboardist with Mannheim
Steamroller. A music administrator, he founded Nebraska's
professional choir, the Soli Deo Gloria Cantorum, and has lent his organizing talents
to various large-scale musical events. A composer, he has received commissions
and awards for a substantial volume of sacred, chamber, orchestral, and choral
music. Jackson Berkey's catalog of recordings and published works may be found
in distribution by Masters Music, a division of Edwin F. Kalmus.
