Biography

Born in 1978 in Yerevan (Armenia) pianist and composer Hayk Arsenyan began his musical education as a violinist and composer at the Tchaikovsky Specialized Music School affiliated with the Yerevan State Conservatory in Armenia. In 1993 he went to Paris to study piano at the Ecole Normal de Paris Alfred Cortot, then at the Conservatoire National de Region D'Aubervillier La Courneuve in Paris. In 1996 he went to Moscow to continue his piano studies at the Gnessin Music Academy, where he completed his undergraduate degree and from 1999-2001 was a graduate student and a teaching assistant. From 2003-2006 he was a teaching assistant and a doctoral student in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa. In 2007 Mr. Arsenyan received a full tuition "Yevgeny Kissin" scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music for Professional Studies in the piano studio of Dr. Solomon Mikowsky.
Mr. Arsenyan is a laureate of several international and national piano and composition competitions including the Ibla Grand Prize International Piano Competition (Italy), the Radio France Grand National Competition (France), Claude Kahn Piano Competition (France), Khachaturian Piano Competition (Armenia), and the Young Talents All-Soviet-Union Young Composers Competition (Ukraine/USSR).
He has appeared in numerous recitals and concerts in countries of Europe, Asia, South America and the USA. In January 2006 he was presented on the Phillips Collection Concert Series in Washington DC. Mr. Arsenyan has been featured internationally on various TV and radio stations, including KSUI and WSUI (Iowa City/Cedar Rapids), Radio Europe (Paris), Radio Armenia (Paris), Radio Classic (Moscow), and Radio Free Europe (Yerevan).
In 2006 and 2007 two of his original compositions were choreographed and presented by the Dance Department of the University of Iowa. In 2000 he was invited to give a series of recitals in Moscow and Paris dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of Christianity in Armenia. In 1999 he played a recital at the Mozart's Museum "Petranka" in Prague. In 1997 he performed with the Radio France Republican Orchestra and was awarded a platinum medal by the City of Paris. In 1993 he presented concerts at the Palais D'UNESCO in Paris, after which two collections of his original works were published in Paris.
He has been a member of the French Society of Authors and Composers (SACEM) since 1993. In 2000 he also became a junior member of the "Ararat" International Academy of Science in Paris.
Currently Mr. Arsenyan is on faculty at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
