Biography
In recent seasons, Polish violinist Magdalena Filipczak has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the UK (including Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, St Martin in the Fields, St John’s Smith Square), Europe, as well as South America, Canada and the USA. She has recorded for BBC Radio 3, Canadian Radio, Polish, Austrian and Estonian TV and Radio. She toured Brazil and Argentina as guest leader with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. Among her many competition successes was 2008 IV Heino Eller International Violin Competition in Estonia. Recently she was one of the Holland Music Sessions’ New Masters on Tour 2015/16 which included a debut recital at Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
In 2014, Ms. Filipczak’s solo disc ‘Essence of Violin’, featuring works by Polish and British composers as well as Saint-Saëns and Piazzolla, was released on Audio-B. Other recordings include with Gruppo Montebello and conductor Henk Guittart playing works by Schoenberg and Webern on the Etcetera label, and violin solos with the Royal Northern Sinfonia for Tim Garland’s ‘Songs to the North Sky’, released on Edition Records (5 stars by BBC Music Magazine and the Guardian).
Ms. Filipczak holds Master of Music and Performance degrees from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where her primary teacher was Krzysztof Śmietana. In addition to her violin playing, Magdalena studied classical voice with John Evans at the Guildhall School. Magdalena serves on the violin faculty of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, and co-directs the Devonia Concert Series.
