Grażyna Bacewicz was a Polish female composer and violinist. Her father was her first piano and violin teacher. Grażyna studied violin and composition at the Warsaw Conservatory and later she was given a scholarship by Ignacy Jan Paderewski to study composition in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and violin with André Touret. Many of her compositions feature the violin and are influenced by Polish folk music. The Polish Caprice (1949) is a work for solo violin that begins with a slow, song-like melody of a meditative character and concludes in a lively, energetic folk dance.Notes by Magdalena Filipczak
