Nolan Pearson, Piano
Biography
Nolan Pearson, who has been praised by the New York Times as a "high-energy pianist" who brings "beauty and cohesiveness" to his interpretations of new music, is a widely active musician. As soloist he has appeared with such conductors as Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Stefan Asbury, Bridget Reischl and Robert Hasty. Recent performances have included with Cho-Liang Lin, Lucy Shelton, Chicago Pro Musica, the Quartetto di Cremona, and the Mark Morris Dance Group.
Mr. Pearson is especially engaged in performing new music, and was the original pianist of the acclaimed New Fromm Players at Tanglewood in 2010 and 2011. He has commissioned several solo piano pieces and won the 2008 Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship, the 2009 Henri Kohn Award, the 2008 Lindsay Competition, and the Concerto Competitions while at Oberlin Conservatory and Northwestern University. He studied principally with Ursula Oppens and Robert Shannon, and with Peter Serkin and Stephen Drury at Tanglewood. Mr. Pearson also holds a degree in biochemistry and has been an Instructor at Northwestern University since 2009.
