Robert Schumann’s Three Romances are well known by virtually every instrumentalist.Originally written in 1849 for oboe and piano while he was living in Dresden, Schumann noted that the pieces could be played by either oboe or violin when they were published.Violinists took note, as did flutists, clarinetists, hornists, and cellists who all frequently perform these beautiful pieces today.All three movements are deeply passionate and personal, and are structured in ABA form with Schumann splitting the expressive material democratically between the flute and piano.Emi Ferguson
