Perhaps the most celebrated and recognized tune since the mid-eighteenth century, this French nursery tune is often referred to as “Twinkle, twinkle, little star” in English. Mozart learned the famous tune while visiting Paris and soon after composed this piece. Variations are an excellent case study of a composer’s compositional technique and his thought process. Here, Mozart created twelve different but unique ways to embellish and reinvent a simple children’s song, while not losing the identity of the theme.Esther Park
