Scarlatti was born in Naples in 1685.
A composer of more than 600 sonati, he is one of the chief exponents of
Baroque keyboard music. This prodigious
output of one-movement sonati was created for use as teaching pieces for the
musically gifted Maria Barbara, the Portuguese princess who later became the
queen of Spain.
