Biography

Now in her early twenties, Sonya Bach has captured numerous international awards and critical acclaim concertizing in the world's most prestigious concert halls in cities such as Budapest, London, Milan, Monte Carlo, New York, Prague, Seoul and Zürich.

Sonya Bach made her first public appearance at age 5, and orchestra debut at age 9, playing with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra. At 12 years of age, she moved to New York City to attend the Juilliard School and the Professional Children's School in New York City. Sonya made her first European tour when she was 15, appearing in prestigious concert halls in the Czech Republic and Hungary.

At sixteen, Sonya captured the Gina Bachauer Memorial Award at Juilliard, First Prize at the 41st National Young Artists Competition in Colorado, and the Special Prize as the youngest participant at the 12th Viotti-Valsesia International Music Contest in Italy competing with 103 pianists up to 35 years of age. This was followed by performances with the Westchester Symphony.

At seventeen, Sonya was invited by famed Russian pianist Lazar Berman to become his youngest pupil and to attend the prestigious Accademia Pianistica "Incontri col Maestro" in Imola, Italy. Shortly thereafter she participated in the world renowned Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Lübeck, Germany where she was hailed as "a born master in the interpretation of Chopin's Etudes". The same year, as the youngest participant, she captured top prizes at the St. Charles International Piano Competition in the United States and Italy's ECO International Music Competition.

Recently Sonya was discovered by conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev and was praised for her performance at the Tonhalle of Zürich, Switzerland. Immediately after, Maestro Fedoseyev invited then twenty-year-old Sonya to make her debut in Moscow in Schumann and Britten Concerti with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Sonya's upcoming engagements include "Pianists of the World" series at the St. Martin in the Fields in London, a debut recital at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Bruxelles, a series of TV appearances in Switzerland, an inaugural concert tour with the Swiss Virtuosi Orchestra, and a series of concert tours in Europe. Her debut album is due for release in October 2005 from Golden Angel Records in Switzerland.
