Laments, Or The Maiden and The Nightingale Enrique Granados
Quejas
o la Maja y el Ruiseñor is one of the most famous
and popular pieces of Spanish composer Enrique Granados. The composer considered this work his most
personal and imaginative inspiration. In it, we can hear the laments of the
maiden who has lost her nightingale which merrily answers her at the end of the
piece. Behind this story, the transparency of the composition reveals a fervor
of love which, as the composer himself said, is more like the jealousy of a
woman rather than the sorrow of a widow. Sonya Bach
