Jean Sibelius was a Finnish violinist and composer of the late Romantic and early-modern periods. Widely recognized as his country's national composer, Sibelius is often credited with supporting the rise of the Finnish national identity in the country's struggle for independence. In 1906, Sibelius wrote incidental music to Belshazzar's Feast, a play by his Finnish countryman, Hjalmar Fredrik Eugen Procopé. The score was published as Op. 51. In 1907, Sibelius extracted a purely orchestral suite of four pieces, which is much better known than the original score. The Nocturne, originally Prelude: Notturno, is one of the extracted works from the original suite for violin and piano.Naria Kim
