Balta Ainava(White Scenery) was composed by Peteris Vasks(b. 1946)who was born in Aizpute (Latvia) to a Baptist family, but because of the Soviet policy of repression of Baptists, he was obliged to obtain his musical training in neighboring Lithuania. Vasks’ pieces include elements of Latvian folk music and minimalism. Balta Ainava was premiered in 1980 and is one of the movements of the cycle ‘Die Jahreszeiten‘. Evelina Puzaite
