Today's concert will present three pieces that “pay homage” to an earlier style or a specific composer. The most straightforward example is Earl Wild’s Hommage à Poulenc. In this piece, Wild arranges and reharmonizes the Sarabande from J. S. Bach’s first Partita for keyboard in the style of Francis Poulenc. This is essentially an exercise in recomposition – how would Poulenc harmonize Bach’s melody?Yevgeny Yontov
