Today's concert will present sonatas from two composers, who are positioned at opposite ends of keyboard sonata history. Scarlatti was not only one of the first, but also one of the most important composers of this genre. He composed over 550 sonatas for harpsichord, which, today, are mostly performed on a modern piano. In these short single-movement pieces, one can already recognize musical characteristics that would become defining traits for keyboard sonatas: a certain harmonic plan and thematic structure.Yevgeny Yontov
