I composed this five-voice motet for the renowned Irish composer Colin Mawby (b.1936). The motet uses a Renaissance technique called soggetto cavato; solfége syllables rhyming with syllables of the composer's name are used to generate the melody of one of the voices. "Co-lin Maw-by" thus becomes "sol-mi fa-mi".
