Biography
Hailed by critics for her “tonal bloom” and “hauntingly beautiful performances,” English-American flutist Emi Ferguson is a performer who stretches the boundaries of what is expected of modern-day instrumentalists. Her unique approach to the flute can be heard in performances that alternate between the Silver Flute, Historical Flutes, and Auxiliary Flutes, playing repertoire stretching from the Renaissance to today.
Ms. Ferguson was a featured performer alongside Yo-Yo Ma, Paul Simon, and James Taylor at the 10th Anniversary Memorial Ceremony of 9/11 at Ground Zero, where her performance of Amazing Grace was televised worldwide. She has been featured at the Marlboro and Lucerne music festivals, and this summer, will be teaching and playing at festivals in Brazil, California, Germany, and France, with Juilliard Global, PianoSonoma, Juilliard Baroque, and Les Arts Florissants.
Ms. Ferguson is the 1st Prize winner of the New York Flute Club Young Artist, the Mid-Atlantic Flute, the Juilliard Concerto, and the J.C. Arriaga Chamber Music Competitions. She is the first person to have graduated from Juilliard with Undergraduate and Graduate degrees with Scholastic Distinction in flute performance, as well as a second Graduate degree in Historical Performance where she studied as a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow. Her principal teachers have been Carol Wincenc, Sandra Miller, Robert Langevin, and Judy Grant.
