Biography

Pianist Klara Min’s performances have been praised by the New York Concert Review as “a lovely, nuanced tone, genuine expressiveness, excellent technique, exuberance and vitality” and by Przeglad Polski (Polish Newspaper) as “a beautiful, rich sound and splendid vitality”. The Cincinnati Enquirer described her as “although petite, she has steely nerves.” A native of South Korea, Ms. Min has concertized in North America, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy and her native South Korea in such venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Barge Music, Gasteig Hall in Munich, Berlin Philharmonie Hall in Berlin, Germany and KBS Broadcast system hall in Seoul, Korea.

Ms. Min made her Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Debut in 2002 as a winner of the Artists International Competition in New York. In 2007, she commissioned and premiered a Capriccio for Piano and Ten instruments by American composer Robert Sirota, and in the following year performed John Corigliano’s Piano Concerto.  Ms. Min has appeared with the Jupiter Symphony, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, New York Sinfonietta, American Chamber Orchestra and Seoul Symphony Orchestra, and her performance of the Chopin E minor Piano Concerto was broadcast nationwide on SBS TV Channel Network in South Korea. Competition prizes have included the Grand Prize of the IBLA Grand Prize International Competition, the Best Performance of Mozart Prize at the Viotti-Valsesia International Piano Competition in Italy and a top prize at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati.

Recent highlights have included performances with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra in Alaska, Das Symphonieorchestre in Berlin’s Philharmonie Hall, the Munich Kammerphilharmonie Dacapo, and the Armenian Philharmonic. In July 2011, Ms. Min’s recording of solo works by Korean composers will be released on the NAXOS label.

As a founder and artistic director of New York Concert Artists & Associates, she has presented and performed in its concert series, “Brahms and Schumann”, “Mozart’s Twenty-five Piano Concerti” and annual “Evenings of Piano Concerti”. Her presentation has been featured in the International Piano Magazine, The Korea Times, Yamaha’s Accent Magazine and Time Out New York.

Ms. Min received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree with Solomon Mikowsky, Sara Buechner and Byron Janis at the Manhattan School of Music. She has been a member of the piano faculty at Wesleyan University in Connecticut and assistant instructor at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Ms. Min resides in New York City, and is a Yamaha Artist.
