Chopin’s music is well-known for its bel-canto style (an Italian opera term for beautiful singing), and he, nicknamed as “the poet of piano”, composed countless jewels of beautiful piano music. Chopin’s love for opera is shown in many of his compositions and is evident in these two pieces. The Grand Polonaise was originally written for piano and orchestra and Chopin added the Andante Spianato to the start of the piece. The Andante Spianato brings a beautiful long line of melody as introduction, and the Polonaise opens in fanfare, moving into a charming and rhythmic Polish dance form. Klara Min
