Catalan composer
Enrique Granados is best remembered today for his piano compositions, although
he wrote works in many genres. His most
famous work may be his opera Goyescas. Even that work, however, has as its antecedent
a piano suite of the same name which Granados composed before the opera.
Allegro de concierto (Concert
Allegro), is one of Granados's most popular and virtuosic compositions. In
1903, the Director of the Madrid Conservatory announced a competition for
composers to write a pieceto be used as an examination work for
graduating piano students. There were twenty-four entries. Granados was
declared the winner and Manuel de Falla was recognized with an honorable
mention. Antonio Pastor Otero
