The piece is an opera fantasy for piano by Franz Liszt on themes from Mozart's Don Giovanni. It is considered one of the most technically demanding compositions of the piano repertoire. Alexander Scriabin injured his right hand over-practicing this piece and wrote the funeral march of his First Piano Sonata in memory of his damaged hand. To compare with his other technical repertoire such as the Rigoletto Paraphrase, Réminiscences de Don Juan is "heavier" in terms of its length and dramatic intensity. The great pianist Ferruccio Busoni says in the preface to his 1918 edition of the work, the Réminiscences carries "an almost symbolic significance as the highest point of pianism."Yehong Shi
