Asturias (Leyenda) for Solo Violin IsaacAlbéniz , arr. Turull and León
Catalan composer and virtuoso pianist, Isaac Albéniz, was one of the main advocates of a Spanish national style of composition. He composed prolifically, mostly character pieces for the piano, but also zarzuelas and operas. He studied with musicologist Felipe Pedrell in 1883 and his influence was decisive for his solid grounding in Spanish traditions.
Asturias is not suggestive of the folk music of the northern Spanish region of Asturias, but rather of Andalusianflamenco traditions. The namewas given posthumously by the German publisher Hofmeister. Although originally for piano, it has been transcribed and arranged for a number of instruments. Eva León
