Matthias Weckmann was a German composer who studied under Heinrich Schütz.Schütz had studied in Venice and brought the progressive Italian music of the early 17th century to Germany. Like Castello, Weckmann wrote a collection of Sonatas for a chamber ensemble of mixed winds and strings.
