Cantilène, a flowing, poetic melody, is vividly portrayed in this work, which contains beautiful, sweeping passages sung by the clarinet in an effortless manner. It was written circa 1948, by virtuoso French clarinetist Louis Cahuzac, a famed clarinet pedagogue and respected composer. Although it was not officially published until 1972, the first recording made in 1948 was by the composer himself. Its engaging and elaborate runs weave together a charmingly simple tune in a one- movement work. Notes by Jonathan Woolf
