Intermezzo from “F-A-E” Sonata Robert Schumann, arr. by Maksim Shtrykov
Written also in 1853, the “F-A-E” Sonata is a work in four movements composed by Robert Schumann, his student Albert Dietrich, and their young Johannes Brahms whom the Schumanns. The piece was dedicated to the eminent violinist Joseph Joachim who also was the one to premiere the Three Romances by Clara Schumann. His motto was “frei aber einsam” (free but lonely), and the movements are based on the notes F-A-E, the motto’s initials, serving as a musical code. Notes by Misuzu Tanaka
