Circle of Waltzes

The inspiration behind the "Circle of Waltzes" project was to demonstrate the historical richness of the waltz genre by presenting a wide variety of works composed through various different time periods. It is very interesting to observe the different perspectives and distinctive approaches of each composer of the program.

Russian composer Alexander Scriabin - Waltz in A-Flat Major, Op. 38. The year 1903 was extremely productive for Scriabin. Elements of his late mystical style were even beginning to appear in his music. But then, certain compositions were still largely Romantic in nature. This waltz is one such example. The melody is sweet and leisurely, quirky and hesitant, but can suddenly turn passionate and fiery.
